First Video of Arena

I published the first gameplay video of the game I’ve been working on. It’s a tactical arena game built in Godot, currently called “Arena” (working title, I know).

The video is simple: a single battle without showcasing most of the features the game actually has. The colour scheme is bland, the UI is too busy, and the attack effects aren’t as captivating as I’d like them to be. The more I watch it the more I feel that I hate it!

But it doesn’t matter. These are all things I can work on. Colours, effects, UI clutter, all solvable problems with iteration. The hard part was getting to a point where there’s something worth iterating on at all.

Why it matters to me

I’ve started many projects over the years but this is the first solo project I’ve worked on for months and kept pushing through the rough patches without giving up. Getting to a place where I feel comfortable sharing it with a wide audience is new territory for me, and it feels like a real milestone!

What’s next

The game is currently being tested and I’m thinking of releasing a free alpha soon. I want people to play it and tell me what works and what doesn’t. If you’re interested in trying it or have feedback, reach out at contact@shippingchaos.dev.

More videos to come. Better ones, hopefully.
